Lead Engineer — Private Cloud Policy-as-Code & Policy Governance Platform ING

Leading the design and build of ING’s internal policy-as-code and policy-governance platform for its private cloud estate.

    7 highlights
    • Started the engineering team from an ambiguous brief and took the platform from architecture into ING production; own the architecture documentation and releases.
    • Own the platform architecture and event-driven control plane across policy ingestion, governance workflows, audit history, and release integration.
    • Co-designed and built an event-sourcing framework providing replayable policy and exemption history and point-in-time governance views across the cloud estate.
    • Built idempotent reconciliation from Azure and GCP policy-as-code repositories into the control plane, retaining immutable versions, Git provenance, and complete audit history.
    • Delivered durable asynchronous policy-exemption workflows whose API feeds Azure and GCP release pipelines, connecting approvals directly to enforcement.
    • Designed the CI/CD pipeline for the platform’s Go and Rust services in Azure DevOps, including caching and quality checks.
    • Trained and mentored three engineers in Go, Rust, CI/CD, and distributed systems.

    4 highlights
    • Built a Kafka ingestion pipeline for resource consumption metrics, with canonical data models, stable identifiers, and idempotency keys to prevent duplicate charging.
    • Implemented a Go API — deployed to Kubernetes with Helm and CockroachDB — through which internal service providers define services, pricing, and cost models; consumed by ING’s Cloud Atlas portal.
    • Trained four engineers in Go, CI/CD, and ELT-style data ingestion pipelines.
    • Collaborated with finance, platform, and engineering stakeholders to meet reporting and governance requirements.

  3. Work Leadership
RING Study Trip Committee Member — Manila 2023 ING

Co-organised a week-long study trip to ING Hubs Philippines for 40 high-potential employees, built around ING's Big 6 Capabilities — owning the Cybersecurity capability segment of the agenda.

    4 highlights
    • Owned the Cybersecurity capability segment of the Big 6 Capabilities agenda: hosted a fireside chat with ING's then Global Chief Architect of Infrastructure and Engineering covering ransomware, generative AI and bank security, and organised live hacking demonstrations of social engineering, USB Rubber Ducky devices and radio-frequency scanners.
    • Organised the bike tour and handled on-the-ground communication and coordination for two days of the trip.
    • Co-managed the trip budget (travel, accommodation, events), balancing cost constraints with programme quality.
    • Strengthened cross-border networks and collaboration between Dutch and Philippine teams as part of the ING Hubs rebranding.
