De Bondscoaches

A loud, orange, football-and-music landing page for a Dutch fan project.

De Bondscoaches is a music project by my friend Joran Wamelink and his friend Thijs. Together, they are the two “bondscoaches”: making Dutch football-focused music for fun, for supporters, and for anyone who enjoys the strange shared joy of Oranje songs, football humour, and match-day energy.

Their first single is called “Wout Weghorst Gaat Weer Mee” — exactly the kind of title that tells you what the project is about before you even press play.

I volunteered to put the website together because the project has a genuinely fun spirit behind it. This was not meant to be a heavy product build or a corporate artist site. It needed to be a simple, expressive home on the web: somewhere people can discover De Bondscoaches, understand the idea immediately, and jump straight to Spotify, Apple Music, Instagram, or TikTok.

The goal

The purpose of the site is mainly exposure and search discoverability.

De Bondscoaches needed a small but polished online presence that could:

  • explain what the project is
  • promote the first single
  • capture the visual identity of the artwork
  • link visitors to the relevant music and social platforms
  • give the project a proper domain: debondscoaches.nl

The site is intentionally direct. It is not trying to be clever or complex. It is there to make the project feel real, memorable, and easy to find.

Visual direction

The brand identity is built around Dutch football energy: orange clothing, stadium-party silhouettes, music notes, football graphics, paint splatter, and bold brush-style typography.

The main logo has a circular badge composition with two smiling figures in orange fan outfits, set against a chaotic orange, black, and white football-party background. The single cover takes the mood darker and more dramatic, with a locker-room composition centred on a Dutch shirt reading Weghorst 9.

I wanted the website to sit between those two worlds:

  • the friendly, loud, celebratory energy of the logo
  • the darker, more dramatic release-campaign feel of the single cover

The result is a one-page landing site with strong contrast, oversized imagery, orange-and-black sections, platform calls to action, and Dutch copy that leans into the football-fan tone rather than sounding like a generic music marketing page.

Design principles

The design direction was deliberately not minimalist.

For this project, minimalism would have been the wrong choice. De Bondscoaches should feel like a supporter anthem, a football sticker, a pub chant, and a festival poster all at once.

The visual system uses:

  • vivid Dutch orange as the dominant colour
  • near-black panels for contrast
  • off-white text and outlines
  • brush-stroke and sticker-like treatments
  • bold display typography
  • circular logo framing
  • music and football motifs
  • short, punchy sections optimised for scanning

The page is designed to be instantly understandable: you land on it, see the name, see the artwork, understand the first single, and know exactly where to listen or follow.

Implementation

I built the site with SvelteKit, TypeScript, TailwindCSS, and shadcn-svelte.

shadcn-svelte was useful here because it provides accessible primitives without forcing the site into a predefined visual system. The components could be used for structure — buttons, cards, badges, layout pieces — while Tailwind handled the actual brand expression.

The site itself is intentionally lightweight:

  • a single-page landing experience
  • responsive layout for mobile and desktop
  • strongly structured semantic sections
  • centralised platform links
  • proper metadata for search and social sharing
  • clear calls to action for Spotify, Apple Music, Instagram, and TikTok

The implementation favours a small, durable static-marketing-site shape over unnecessary complexity. For a project like this, the best technical solution is the one that stays fast, maintainable, and easy to update when new tracks or platform links are added.

Content and SEO

Because the main purpose of the site is discoverability, the copy is written in Dutch and includes natural search language around:

  • Nederlandse voetbalmuziek
  • Oranje muziek
  • Nederlands elftal liedjes
  • voetbal anthems
  • Wout Weghorst
  • EK and WK supporter music

The SEO goal was not to stuff the page with keywords, but to make the project legible to search engines while still sounding like it belongs to the brand.

The page explains what De Bondscoaches are in plain language: music for Dutch football fans, built around stadium feeling, humour, hooks, and Oranje energy.

Why I liked working on it

This was a fun project because it had no pretence.

Joran and Thijs are doing De Bondscoaches for enjoyment, and that gave the site a clear creative direction. It did not need to be overly polished in a sterile way. It needed to feel energetic, friendly, and a bit ridiculous in exactly the right way.

That made the design problem more interesting: how do you make something playful and loud while still making it feel intentional, usable, and properly built?

The answer was to keep the structure simple, let the artwork lead, and make every section push visitors towards the music.

Outcome

The final site gives De Bondscoaches a proper online home for their first release, “Wout Weghorst Gaat Weer Mee”.

It introduces the project, showcases the artwork, links out to their music and social platforms, and gives them a searchable presence at debondscoaches.nl.

Most importantly, it feels like the project itself: orange, musical, football-obsessed, and made for people to enjoy.
